Canada may not participate in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics if the event is not delayed

The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) has just announced that it will not send the delegation to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics if the sporting event is not delayed for 1 year.

The COC calls this a tough decision. The COC said the decision received support from the national sports organizations and the Government of Canada. This announcement came amid criticism of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) response to the Covid-19 acute respiratory pandemic.

IOC President Thomas said in a statement on March 22. He said the deadline for the IOC to decide on the fate of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is 4 weeks away.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics could not go as planned

On the same day, officials from the Australian Olympic Committee said that it was clear that the 2020 Tokyo Olympics could not go as planned. The country’s athletes were instead preparing for the script instead of starting July 24. This year, the Tokyo Olympics will be postponed until the summer of 2021. If not, Canada will withdraw from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Meanwhile, in the US, 70% of the 300 athletes, which include Canadian soccer players, questioned in an online poll supported the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said for the first time that postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics “could be inevitable” if the Covid-19 outbreak made the organization unsafe.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) also changed its stance on the organization of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. IOC also said it would plan different scenarios including delaying the event.

Soccer has been popular in Canada for many years. Although the soccer laws in Canada have many separate rules, the main rules of this sport are still maintained. The first soccer match in Canada took place in the city of Toronto. It was in October 1876 between two local soccer teams.

Canada’s women’s soccer team still has a lot of remarkable achievements in international competitions. In 2015, Canada hosted the FIFA Women World Cup and enjoyed a lot of success.
